Introduction to our employees:

Our goal at Sparks Car Care is to give the best in both automotive and personalized service. The “our” referred to is not just CEO Merle Pfeifer … it includes an experienced and dedicated group of employees who also happen to be nice people.

Teri Smith

Teri has been a part of the Sparks team since June 2002. Teri is our artistic employee and has the important responsibility of communication with our customers about their appointments and satisfaction surveys. As safety director, she keeps us “safety conscious” with our monthly safety meetings. Teri is always willing to give a helping hand where needed and we appreciate her team spirit!

Teri was born in Burien, WA, and grew up in Federal Way where she graduated from Federal Way High School. She now lives in the Puyallup valley. She has been working in the automotive industry since 1981 in various customer service and office management positions that include fleet account service, customer service, multi-tasking, appointment scheduling and administrative work.

Teri is a certified ASE Service Consultant and has taken numerous customer service and consulting courses.

Christena Pfeifer

Christena was born in Ames, Iowa, but considers herself a native Montanan. Her family moved to Bozeman, Montana, when she was just a young child. She went through the Bozeman Public School System for her K-12 education and graduated from Montana State University with a Bachelors Degree in Business Management.

Her career has been in the travel industry.  She has worked in almost every aspect of the industry from a travel agency to a hospitality management company to her most recent position as a Lockheed Martin contractor working at the FAA.

She moved to the Seattle area in 1990.  She met Merle through her association with Sparks Car Care and the “sparks” flew.  And as they say, the rest is history! Christena’s primary duties at Sparks Car Care include marketing, advertising, contract writing, training coordination, and of course, taking care of Merle. She truly loves her involvement in the automotive industry and Sparks Car Care.

Merle Pfeifer

Merle’s fascination with cars began early. His mom says he was born with a wrench in one hand, a gear shift in the other and lead in his right foot.

His curiosity about cars never faltered. At the tender age of 12, he couldn’t wait for the cars to be unveiled. In those days, the new cars came wrapped from the factory and all the dealers unwrapped their new models at the same time. Merle just had to have his own private showing. So….early one Sunday morning he climbed a 6 foot chain link fence and proceeded to carefully unwrap every new car to inspect them closely. Once done, he very carefully wrapped them all back up. No one ever knew until now!! (Uh Oh, the secret’s out!)

This lifetime passion of cars led Merle to start Sparks Car Care in October of 1986 after having worked 5 years at GE as Plant Operations Manager. Prior to GE, Merle worked at Kenworth as a Field Engineer and a 5 year Tool and Dye apprenticeship. During his 15 year stay at Kenworth, he earned his BS in Business from Seattle City University. He spent 3 years active duty in Vietnam and 17 years as a Naval Reserve Officer.

Merle is an AAM (Accredited Automotive Manager) graduate, a certified Master ASE Automotive Technician, an emission specialist and is active with ASA (Automotive Service Association).

Merle is the past Chair of the Federal Way Chamber Board of Directors and currently the Chair of the Federal Way City Planning Commission. Next year he will be President of the Pierce County ASA organization.
